I am excited to host our high school chemistry teacher, Ms. Lazinski, for our January Falcon podcast. Ms. Lazinski had the opportunity to participate in a research experience for teachers (RET) program at Penn State University over the last 3 summers. She worked in a research lab for 6 weeks with a graduate student on their research project.

Mr. Hammons ~ Trout in the Classroom

"Trout in the Classroom" is a hands-on environmental education program where students raise trout from eggs in a classroom aquarium and then release them into a local, approved stream in the spring. Throughout the year, students learn how to care for living creatures, monitor water quality, and observe the trout life cycle up close, which helps them understand topics like ecosystems, clean water, and conservation in a very concrete way. The program is designed to connect kids with their local watershed and to build a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment—so when they finally release “their” trout, they also feel more connected to the streams, rivers, and natural resources their community depends on. Mr. Hammons has been supporting this program for 6 years starting in 2019 and is with us today to share his experiences. Welcome Mr. Hammons!

Ms. Williams ~ The Writing Revolution ~ Part 1

The Writing Revolution, or TWR, is a set of simple, practical strategies that help students become stronger thinkers and writers. It isn’t a separate program or workbook; it’s a way of teaching that we weave into everyday lessons in every subject. Students learn how to write clear sentences, organize their ideas, and explain their thinking. As they do this, they not only improve their writing but also gain a better understanding of what they read and what they’re learning in class. In our second episode, scheduled for release in February 2026, we'll discuss how families can support writing at home.

Ms. McKnight ~ Music and Connections

Music classes and ensembles are more important than ever in today’s world. Playing and singing together teach students how to listen, cooperate, and rely on one another, skills that translate directly to teamwork in school and beyond.
